Han Yu is a graphic designer and visual artist, who is currently based in Amsterdam, and originally from an antique town in eastern China. He moved to Holland to study Graphic Design since 2013 at Gerrit Rietveld Academie, a university of applied sciences for Fine Arts and Design in Amsterdam, graduating in summer 2018.
Compared to his peers who were typically more concentrating on aesthetic perception, Han Yu is more focused on the subject itself, and attempting to turn problems with the subject into solutions. Mainly, in his work, he is dealing with all kinds of potential or subtle issues we have nowadays, from social equality to human rights, feminism, environmental issues, and more personally, awareness of mental disorders.
Han is specialized in book making, image making, video making and sometimes object making. Under the influence of de Stijl and Dutch design concepts, often Han's works are fundamental, sharp, direct and personal. Sometimes, people use "fun in the seriousness" to characterize his work.
"In all of his projects, Han shows his abilities as a designer. Works are well made, aware of content, play with the materiality, play with form, and make smart use of language, while aesthetically pleasing."
